Generate Biomedicines and Zealand Pharma announced a collaboration and license agreement on Oct. 13, 2026 to develop multispecific protein therapeutics for obesity and other metabolic diseases, designed with Generate’s generative-AI platform. Generate leads research through lead-candidate selection; Zealand handles clinical development, regulatory work and worldwide commercialization.
Terms (per the companies): For two initial programs, Generate receives $30 million upfront, up to $35 million in early preclinical milestones, and is eligible for total milestones of nearly $1.2 billion, plus tiered royalties. Zealand has an option to add a third program.
Milestone totals are contractual eligibility, not guaranteed payments. Drug candidates can fail at any stage.
What this means for you: This is a business signal for AI drug design, not proof that AI-designed drugs work. The real test is whether these programs reach the clinic.
