NVIDIA Opens Vera Rubin Rack Designs to OCP to Scale AI Factories
At the OCP Global Summit in San Jose, NVIDIA said it is opening Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs to the Open Compute Project via MGX, and with partners published open AI-factory and grid-resilience specs.

On Monday (Oct. 12, 2026), at the Open Compute Project Global Summit in San Jose, NVIDIA announced that it is opening key Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs to OCP through the open NVIDIA MGX architecture. Ian Buck, NVIDIA’s VP of hyperscale and HPC, was scheduled to keynote roughly 5:45–6:15 PM PT (about 8:45–9:15 PM ET).
NVIDIA and partners also announced: open standards for next-gen AI factories (design plus grid resilience); new open-source software for NVIDIA DSX AI Factory; Meta advancing open AI networking with Spectrum-X / Spectrum-6; Visionbay introducing an 800V DC AI factory design for the Vera Rubin era; NVIDIA and Cisco announcing USFP (Ultra-Dense Small Form Factor Pluggable) for 400Gb/s-based fabrics; and NVIDIA and Google announcing Falcon Transport support on future ConnectX-10 SuperNICs and BlueField DPUs.
NVIDIA joined AMD, Google and Meta to publish Open Data Center Specification v0.7, described as a unified blueprint for AI factory facility design. Separately, Google, Meta, Microsoft and NVIDIA published the OCP Grid Resilience Specification, which sets how large-scale AI infrastructure should behave during utility grid disturbances — staying connected, responding automatically, and restoring to near-full load within less than two seconds.
Company claims (NVIDIA published specs): MGX 1.2 adds rack-scale blind-mate liquid cooling, interoperable interconnect, a liquid-cooled 5,000A busbar, and native 19-inch equipment support; NVIDIA says the architecture supports rack deployments up to 250kW.
Company claims (NVIDIA/Meta): Meta is adopting Spectrum-6 102.4Tb/s Ethernet switches; Spectrum-6 is said to deliver twice the switching capacity and per-lane bandwidth of Spectrum-4, at 200G per lane, with Multiplane up to eight independent network planes for scaling beyond 100,000 GPUs.
Company claims (NVIDIA/Cisco): USFP keeps roughly the same footprint as 200Gb/s-per-lane OSFP, with a path to 400Gb/s-per-lane; 16 full-duplex lanes (plans up to 32); claimed four times the bandwidth density of traditional 200Gb/s-per-lane pluggable optics and about 1.3x greater power efficiency.
Visionbay’s K-1 uses an 800 VDC architecture for future Vera Rubin deployments, with Vertiv power and thermal tech. DSX OS open-source additions named by NVIDIA: Config Manager, Cluster Readiness Engine, Rack Management Service, and Cluster API Provider for NVIDIA Infrastructure Controller.
What this means for you: If you build, buy, or operate AI clusters, watch OCP for the MGX 1.2, Open Data Center v0.7, and Grid Resilience docs before locking next-gen rack or facility designs. If you only use cloud AI APIs, this is background — it shapes how big AI factories get built and how they ride out grid events, not your day-to-day chat app.
